INTUITION AND THE COHERENCE STATE

Research results on the electrophysiology of intuition show that sometimes if a future event is emotionally relevant, the heart can produce a signal that alerts you before the event takes place.
This high speed intuitive intelligence reacts faster than the mind can perceive and bypass standard thought processes. There are 3 types of intuition:
  • Implicit knowledge, or implicit learning refers to something we learned in the past and either forgot or didn’t realize we had learned. It also can be subconscious learning or knowledge we gain from past experience. This fast type of intuitive decision making or action results from the brain matching new problems with unconscious memories.
  • Energetic sensitivity is our ability to sense environmental signals such as magnetic fields or when we feel someone is staring at us.
  • Nonlocal intuition is the knowledge or sense of something that cannot be explained by past or forgotten knowledge. For example a mother who correctly sense that her child, who is in another part of the world, is hurt.

Tools to access this intuition would be:
1. Shift into a coherent state to quite down mental chatter and any emotional unrest. You have better access to all 3 types of your intuitive intelligence when you are coherent.
2. Pay attention to intuitive feelings or perceptions, which often are subtle. This is important because we only perceive something when we are paying attention to it.

Each time the heart beats, a magnetic field is produced that travels out from the body. Scientists have shown that different thought, attitudes and emotions create different signals that are broadcast by this field.

This process of emotions influencing the heart’s magnetic field is similar to how a radio or TV transmissions works with the sound or picture being carried by an electromagnetic wave.

Essentially we broadcast information about how we are feeling, whether or not we are conscious of it. When we shift into a coherent state it helps others find their balance and composure more quickly.

How do you feel today? How do you feel right now? We experience a wide range of emotions every day. Some emotions drain us and others energize us. Emotions supply an energetic power train that influences our major body systems. Emotions determine our level of engagement in life’s events, what motivates us and what we care about.

How emotions drain us?
Emotions are literally toxic. Fear, Frustration, impatience, anger, and sadness cause the release of specific stress hormones in our bodies. These emotions can results in:
  • Impaired mental function
  • Low performances
  • Reduce muscle mass
  • Brain cell death
  • Impaired memory
  • Depleted operational reserves
  • Accelerated aging
Just like a gas-guzzling car, emotions rapidly drink our energy reserves and pollute the body and the environment for others – remember what I said earlier, based on the magnetic field, what we feel, others can too.
Our ability to stay in an inner state of ease and flow is determined by our ability to self regulate our emotions and stop energy leaks.  The Imagery techniques or breathing exercises, meditation, Resilience Advantage techniques by HEARTMATH INSTITUTE are all about regulation of emotional energy for maintaining clarity and balance for self and others.

“Using breathing as first conscious step slows the rate and increases the depth of the breathing mechanism, modulating efferent vagal traffic and heart rhythm, which then increases both the amount and stability (coherence) of vagal, parasympathetic, afferent nerve traffic, and, in turn, the neural systems involved in regulating sympathetic activity, informing emotional experience and synchronizing neural structures underlying cognitive processes (McCraty & Zayas, 2014: 10).
This intimate connection between breathing and feeling is schematically represented in a core HeartMath tool, the Depletion to Renewal Grid ( See above ). In Figure 1, the vertical Y and horizontal X axes correlation may be experiential located as respectively reflecting the intimate relationship between breathing and feeling.
Physiologically, the vertical, breath axis, sympathetic activation yields high heart rates and parasympathetic relaxation rate yields low heart rates, while along the horizontal, feeling axis, depleting, negative emotions are associated with cortisol and renewing positive emotions associated with DHEA.
Examples of negative emotions are anger, frustration and anxiety in the felt hand quadrant and burnout, withdrawal and resentment in the bottom left.
Positive emotion examples include excitement, courage and passion in the top right and contentment, fulfillment and ease in the bottom right quadrant.
The Grid provides a valuable tool for participants to both become aware of such emotional patterns that run through each quadrant on a daily basis and consciously practice using appropriate tools to transform emotions, from negative and depleting to positive and renewing, in the experiential moment. All tools are scientifically researched and evidence provided for such immediate and moment to moment effectiveness.”
