Today we continue with 5 W'S from the previous post, so we can get the whole picture about hypnosis and hypnotherapy.  The next 2 questions are "WHAT" & "WHEN":

2. WHAT can hypnosis be used for?
Hypnosis is a natural, yet an altered state of mind, in which the critical faculty is relaxed and selective thinking is establish. Natural, means everyone has the capacity to enter into the altered state of awareness we refer to as hypnosis. The critical faculty begins developing around age seven and it’s the gatekeeper to the subconscious mind. During hypnosis, relaxation of the critical faculty facilitates the communication between the conscious and subconscious mind. And selective thinking means I am focusing, without effort (means I choose to do so) – upon an idea.
Therefore, hypnosis can be used to return to healthy balance of mind, body and spirit. Hypnotherapy helps the clients to free themselves from the subconsciously limiting beliefs that are reflected in self defeating thoughts and emotions that slow healing and generate pain. It brings light to the dark thoughts held by the mind that are often the ultimate reason for disease.

The following are just a few of the applications for hypnosis or hypnotherapy that have been demonstrated with research:
  • The treatment of chronic pain conditions (such as rheumatoid arthritis.)
  • The treatment and reduction of pain during childbirth.
  • Certain symptoms of ADHD.
  • The reduction of nausea and vomiting in cancer patients undergoing chemotherapy.
  • Control of pain during dental procedures.
  • Elimination or reduction of skin conditions including warts and psoriasis.
  • Phobias, fears, and anxiety
  • Sleep disorders
  • Depression
  • Stress
  • Post-trauma anxiety
  • Grief and loss
  • Expansion of Consciousness and cultivate Self awareness
  • Spiritual guidance and emotional growth
Hypnosis might not be appropriate for a person who has psychotic symptoms, such as hallucinations and delusions, or for someone who is using drugs or alcohol.

3. WHEN should I use self-hypnosis/ go to a hypnotherapist?

Most of the people go to hypnotherapy when someone recommend this to them or because they want a past life regression. A lot of people associates hypnosis with going back in time and find out who they were in another life time, just for fun. Although the past life regression is a technique we use to recover the resource that you had in another life time and activated now, in the present time. I believe it’s our job as hypnotherapist to educate people to know how and when they can go to a hypnotherapist.

Person with an ailment or any kind of physical complaint for that matter, are to see their physician first, for medical treatment and make use of hypnosis and hypnotherapy as an adjunct to medical treatment, second.
Hypnosis session can be done in person but also via Skype. Me personally, I do not work heavy duty issues via Skype. There are certain times where you need to physically be next to your client, some of them need your physical presence  in order to create a strong rapport. This is something that can be established in the first 20 min free consultation that I usually do when I have a new client.
Some of the common possibilities when a person, can use self hypnosis or go to a hypnotherapist are:
  • Improve your  Self Esteem and Confidence
  • Learn to relax your mind and body
  • Improve your Sport performance
  • Improve your Job performance
  • Performing on stage
  • Eliminating fear in Public speaking
  • Taking tests
  • Achieving a specific goal
  • Spiritual and personal growth
  • Have Anxiety, Fears or Phobias
  • Change habits
  • Smoking Cessation
  • Weight Loss
  • Sleeping problems
  • Headaches
  • Post traumatic recovery
  • Medical issues, with the physician approval. (depends on the legal system of every country)
